January-Birchbox Edition {Love it, Like it, or Leave it.}

Im fully aware that it is nearly March as I’m wring this but my subscriptions were backordered and didn’t come in until late February and wouldn’t you know as soon as i get around to it-life happens. Isn’t it funny how just when you think you have everything figured out life throws a curve ball? Anyway, its a series i want to continue, not just for my subscriptions like birch box and boxy charm but, in ultra and Sephora hauls et cetera. I realize this won’t be possible  to do on every level that i want to do it on because soon we will be living in Germany, which still feels like a dream, and rumor has it the nearest Sephora is over an hour and one country away. I know! the absolute horror I’m feeling can’t even begin to be described in words. I will totally do what I can though to keep this in theme, but meanwhile lets catch you up.

how this works: its pretty self explanatory, I list items i bought or received by subscription and tell you if i love it (highly recommend), Like it (maybe not for everyone), leave it (wouldn’t recommended). Also I try to add any thoughts I may have on the product and I pride myself on being very honest. here it goes.

BIRCHBOX JANUARY-

First impressions- good, Adorable box, I can definitely see myself using the stickers.

IMG_0041

BEAUTY PROTECTOR LEAVE IN CONDITIONER

  • This product is a good example of a *like it* product.
  • I used it several times, it smells like snickerdoodles, no kidding.
  • works well, easy to pull though
  • easy to spray
  • The reason its a like it instead of love it is because i don’t love it enough to replace my existing leave in conditioner. The smell was overall the most desirable aspect.

IMG_0042

SUPERGOOP CC CREAM IN FAIR TO LIGHT

  • *like it*
  • smells like sunscreen, very much so.
  • wouldn’t use every day because i don’t love smelling like sunscreen.
  • they personalize for skin tone but this one was still way too yellow.
  • natural overall pigment, just not right for me.

IMG_0044

CYNTHIA ROWLEY PENCIL EYELINER IN BLACK

  • *LEAVE IT*
  • goes on easy, but overall run of the mill pencil eyeliner.

IMG_0038

VASANTI BRIGHTEN UP CLEANSER

  • *LIKE IT*
  • feels amazing, like a microdermabrasion
  • skin feels great and smooth afterwards
  • only somewhat irritating to my skin, hard to rub on
  • feels like sandpaper, somewhat.
  • wouldn’t use everyday

IMG_0040

KEY WEST ALOE FACIAL CLEANSER

  • *LIKE IT*
  • smells fruity and delicious
  • less gritty then the aforementioned one
  • leaves face feeling smooth
  • easy to apply

Tips for getting through a big move in one piece {of mind}

Moving at all to any new place is stressful in and of itself, now add in an ocean between the departure and arrival locations and you have a perfect storm. Don’t mistake my stress for ungratefulness, because believe me I know how lucky I am to be basically paid to move to another country, its always been a dream of mine to live in Europe after all, but just because it’s a dream doesn’t mean it comes easy or without stress.

My holy grail for navigating through the stress and staying level headed can be divided into three categories: mind, body and soul. before you stop reading and dismiss me as a quack just bear with me.

Mind: The key to not loosing your shit, is to write everything down. I have found this to loosen the knots in my shoulders. Write down everything, even things that don’t seem important because you’ll notice half the things you are freaking out about have easy solutions. once you write them out you can cross them off your checklist, the physical one in front of you and mentally, you can remind yourself that it isn’t worth the headache.

  1. make lists. of everything.
  2. schedule everything you possibly can, and if you can’t schedule something write down when you need to have it scheduled by.
  3. basically, a timeline of when to do stuff and when to remember to do more stuff.

for example: the car will have to be sent four to six weeks before we leave in order to arrive at the same time, so I have bought a calendar explicitly for keeping track of our move and I went to our estimated departure date and counted backwards six weeks and four weeks and marked the margin of time. Then, I marked weeks before that to remind me to start arranging it to be sent so that everything will fall in line in time for us to go. I did that with everything i could possibly think of, passports, dogs vaccines/chips, everything.

once you have everything written down you won’t have such a bad headache and hopefully you’ll stop breaking out like a preteen in puburty (speaking from experience here, this move has been awful to my complexion)

Body: during a move, it is and has been so easy to forget about really taking care of yourself because everything else becomes priority number one. Pampering yourself can ease your worries and pimply, red skin. I put time aside for myself to do thing that can easily not be considered important and take a back seat to everything else. Everyone relaxes differently, personally I like to take the occasional bubble bath, paint my nails, wax my own eyebrows ( I might make a tutorial on that later), and give myself facials. The facial packets at Target are a buck or two a piece and work like a damn charm.

img_5112

Soul: This can be totally up to you, the goal here is to get your mind off the packing, the logistics, the scheduling and totally immerse yourself in something to ease your spirit. For me, I love to read and watch comedy shows. Most of my reading right now is John Green but I also love Mitch Albom and Michael Connely. For TV comedies, I would recommend Parks and Recreation if you haven’t watched it yet, or New Girl is always a good choice.

Split ends, dandruff & faded color, oh why?

I’m personally a lover of knowledge. I love to know anything about everything. Trivial facts are some of my best friends. So when I went to school for cosmetology (yes you read that right) I thought I was going for obvious reasons to do hair and such but what ended up happening is I learned a lot of hair tips for myself. Number one thing you learn in school, before the basics, before the techniques, the arguably most important thing to know is product knowledge. You don’t know what to use for your client and mess up their hair, you’ll have a bad reputation and worse client base. Knowing and researching the products I have I was surprised to learn that many of my favorites are not actually that popular on a Facebook & Instagram basis. Don’t know if it has to do with the color, marketing or what that makes it less popular but here is my list of the top 3 products you should use for the top 3 problems I see most of.

1. GOLDWELL COLOR FADE STOP — blotchy Browns? Faded reds? This shampoo/ conditioner combo is the bomb.com to keep your color looking fresh out of the salon and it smells like heaven.

2. SEBASTIAN PENETRAITT- split ends? Breaking blonde? No perfect hairstyle comes without maintenance. Wether it be the penetrate mask or regular conditioner the use of keratin makes your hair feel like silk. It will have you stroking your hand through your hair from shower to style.

3. NIOXIN- dry scalp? Dandruff? This is a more common scalp condition then most people realize. NIOXIN has a complete set of products- shampoo, conditioner & root booster for dry scalp and thinning hair.

Try them, love them, let me know what you think in the comments below!
